Glock Gen 5 vs Gen 6 Guide Rods
Gen 6 frames use a different guide rod assembly than Gen 5 — here's what changed and why the parts aren't interchangeable.
Got a Gen 6? Don't grab a Gen 5 rod.
Short version: they're not interchangeable, and forcing the wrong one gets you a rod that doesn't seat right and a gun that won't run reliably. NDZ builds the G19 / G45 Gen 6 assembly (NDZ-GLK-GRO-G19-G6-V) specifically for the Gen 6 frame, separate from the Gen 5 heavyweight assemblies (G17 Gen 5, G19 Gen 5).
Why the rod is tied to the frame at all
The guide rod and recoil spring live down in the frame's dust cover, under the barrel, and the barrel tilts over the front of the assembly every single cycle. Because it has to seat against the frame and clear the barrel and slide, its length and geometry are locked to the exact frame it was built for. Change the frame — like Glock did going to Gen 6 — and you need the assembly built for it.

- Will a Gen 5 guide rod fit my Gen 6 Glock?
No — NDZ sells the G19 / G45 Gen 6 assembly (NDZ-GLK-GRO-G19-G6-V) as its own part, separate from the Gen 5 heavyweight assemblies. Run the one built for your gen.
- Why does Gen 6 need its own part?
The assembly seats against the frame and has to clear the barrel, so its geometry is tied to that specific frame. Glock's Gen 6 changes are enough that NDZ builds a dedicated rod for it instead of reusing the Gen 5 part — the exact SKU is in the table above.
- Does the G19/G45 Gen 6 rod fit both models?
Yes — the NDZ-GLK-GRO-G19-G6-V assembly is listed for both the Glock G19 and G45 Gen 6.
